Building the New Relativity Analytics Expert Certification

Constantine Pappas

As the use of text analytics gains popularity in e-discovery, the need for skilled analytics administrators has grown significantly. To help our users validate their expertise with Relativity’s suite of analytics features, our certification team now provides the Relativity Analytics Expert certification.

When they began building the Analytics Expert program, the certification team reached out to advice@kCura to provide real world scenarios that would help them design both the written and practical portions of the exam. Preparing the exam was a long and interesting project, and we’d like to provide some insight into how it all came together.

To start, we took some real world experiences and feedback from the Relativity Certified Administrator program to build a new test. We also invited experts in Relativity Analytics from around kCura to submit multiple-choice questions. The questions were then scrutinized, again and again, by the analytics certification task force. As is the case with all of our certification exams, the phrasing required meticulous review. We assembled an early draft of the exam and had team members from across kCura take it. Based on that feedback, some questions were thrown out, and some were clarified.

Pleased with the multiple-choice portion of the exam, we tackled the hands-on exercises next. We started by compiling a list of key tasks and functions in the Analytics suite. Here are some of the questions we addressed during our brainstorming sessions:

  •    What are the steps for making an analytics index?
  •    What are all the proper settings for an optimized index?
  •    What common mistakes do we see with Analytics administration?
  •    Which Analytics functions or features are most frequently used?

Taking all of this into account, we set out to create specific scenarios that will challenge an admin’s knowledge of how to use Analytics in the most effective way. This is a difficult process. How do you tell a story that helps people understand what you’re asking—without telling them the answer?

As a quality check, we made sure that each question was represented somewhere in our documentation and training materials. The key to our users’ success is giving them the right tools, and our informational materials are a key part of that.

We’re excited to see what the Analytics Expert certification can do for our users. To achieve Analytics Expert status, you will need to be very familiar with the process for creating an optimized analytics index and the use of all Analytics features—including Relativity Assisted Review.

The test is designed to be a true measure of Analytics expertise. Taking the Analytics and Assisted Review classes will not guarantee a passing score, but it is a good place to start. RCAs who are diving deeply into these processes on a day-to-day basis are the best candidates for the Analytics Expert certification.

There is a lot of benefit to using Analytics, and we want our users to understand the possibilities—and achieve the best results. Doing so can mean significant cost and time savings. More and more, the industry is beginning to appreciate these benefits. Our goal is to help true experts validate their expertise and stand out in the market. We encourage you to take the test and prove what you know.
