What Does e-Discovery Look Like to the Next Generation?

Kristy Esparza

If you work in the US, you may have noticed a few new (smaller) faces on your commute this morning. No, you’re not in some Freaky Friday situation—today is Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, a national holiday that lets kids experience first-hand a day in the life of a grownup.

Here at kCura, we’ve got rugrats roaming the halls and partaking in fun and educational activities (and very little software development, we promise). Unlike last year, though, we won’t interrupt them to learn what they think their mom or dad does all day.

Instead, we’re turning all eyes on the Relativity community’s kids. Here’s what some of our community’s little ones think goes on at the office.

Allison-and-Jackson_100x100.pngThe Schorz Family, whose dad, Jesse Schorz, is the vice president of engineering at DiscoverReady:

“You fix computers and you program them. You program it so that when somebody clicks something the computer knows what it’s clicking and it can do what the person is telling it what to do.”

  • Allison Schorz, age 9.

“You have a lot of meetings, and you work on things that are broken and fix them.”

  • Jackson Schorz, age 7.

Hannah Kaplan, age 11, on her dad, Ari Kaplan, founder of Ari Kaplan Advisors:

“You made a company. You speak. You find people to use your company. You call people and your clients. And, you get money.”

The Nelson Family, whose Dad, Jared T. Nelson, is partner at MWE China Law Offices:

Cora-Lynne and Callan McMahon, ages 6 and 3. Dad, Hunter, is vice president of legal & consulting services at Altep:

“A LOT! Answer email all the time! Talk on the phone—LOTS AND LOTS!”

Calvin Gaines, 22 months, dishing on his dad’s daily routine. Shawn Gaines is the director of communications at kCura:

Cooper-Malott_100x100.pngCooper Malott, age 5. Dad AJ Malott is the senior director of business operations at LexisNexis:

“Daddy goes to work and looks up stuff on computers all day.”

alana_100x100.pngAlana Diaz, age 8. Her mom, Lucy Melendrez-Diaz is a team lead on kCura’s sales team:

“She goes to meetings. She talks to her clients on the phone to see if she can make a sale with them. She goes on work trips and talks about how to make their work better. The other day she had to do a big demo about it. When she works from home, she works really hard.”

Scott Monaghan, head of customer success and support at Milyli, on his conversation with his five-year old daughter, Elsa:

“I asked Elsa, ‘What do you think I do all day at work?’ and she said ‘Make things!’ I asked her, ‘What do you think my job is?’ and she paused for a second and said, ‘To be an engineer!’”

Chris Dale, founder of the e-Disclosure Information Project, on his kids' perspectives:

kCura’s social media guru Steve Tanner and Chief Operating Officer Nick Robertson dropped a note on the Relativity Community about their kids’ impressions of their gigs:
