From emails to calendar items to contacts, Microsoft Outlook personal storage table (PST) files store a considerable amount of data. When a government client approached Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell about processing and producing up to 25 PSTs, the client asked the firm to produce the files' full metadata. A request of this nature would typically be a burden.

It would require Litigation Support Specialist Christopher Piccirillo to manually map the files' processing fields, often an arduous and labor-intensive process. At least, this was the case before the firm leveraged Relativity.

"Loading full PST files produces rich metadata, and it would take a fair amount of time to map the metadata for a project of this size," said Christopher, noting that the files contained 123 GB of data.

Looking for a way to cut out this manual intervention, Christopher used Relativity Processing, which offers an automated mapping of a multitude of system-created and common metadata fields that populate during processing jobs. This meant Christopher would not have to type out fields like “custodian” or “date.” Instead, he could focus on importing the files and getting the documents to the review stage.

Christopher loaded the data into Relativity late on a Friday afternoon, leaving the job to finish over the weekend. When he checked on the job’s progress on Saturday, he found it had completed. Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchel attorneys could begin reviewing the documents first thing Monday morning.
