Relativity in the Age of Legal Data Intelligence

Over the last 25 years, legal work has been reshaped again and again—by new data types, new ways of working, erupting data volumes, and explosive demand for the cloud and AI.

At Relativity, all those disruptions have enabled us to build legal AI software that offers more than a home for review matters; it’s a platform of massive scale, where our customers build invaluable layers of knowledge on their data across many legal use cases.

While e-discovery remains foundational, the work our customers do extends well beyond it: non-litigation matters now account for more than 55 percent of the data coming into RelativityOne. Legal Data Intelligence matters stretch beyond litigation to cover investigations, privacy issues, regulatory work, data breach responses, and more.

What we’ve heard from you all is that having a single platform to support all this work, to enable repeatable workflows and help you work faster and look better and do more without it becoming too much, is big. Big enough that you figured it out years ago. And RelativityOne was ready. That’s the power of technology that’s both a system of record and a system of action: it empowers ever-expanding legal intelligence.

We decided it’s time we embody where we are now in the way we show up as a company and as a team. We’ve updated our branding to showcase that breadth—to make explicit what our customers experience every day.

Where Our Branding Shows Up

So, the visuals. What does this brand refresh actually look like, and why?

The Logo

The new Relativity logo is what you’ll probably notice first.

We integrated the boxes from our original logo into the “R” in Relativity, creating a more sophisticated and cohesive expression of the Relativity brand and an enduring symbol familiar to our community. This evolution reflects our core value of doing more with less by focusing energy on what matters most.

The original boxes represented documents—reflecting the early days of discovery, when pages were physically scanned in—and their integration into the new mark honors that legacy while recognizing that data today is digital from the start.

Relativity is built to help legal teams act with clarity and purpose, turning complex information into meaningful outcomes. By simplifying and sharpening our visual identity, the new logo reflects that same focus and reinforces our commitment to turning data into actionable intelligence.

Say Hello to Rel

We’re also adopting a nickname that’s been floating around our community for years. You’ll notice us embracing “Rel” in ways we haven’t before: at RelFest, for example, in addition to Rel Labs, the investment arm and innovation hub we established last year.

It means a lot to be familiar and friendly enough to have earned a nickname from you all; we’re honored to lean into it.

A More Vibrant Palette

Finally, our color palette is getting a lift. Specifically, a new take on our signature orange is richer and more vibrant. But more importantly, our new color palette is more accessible for a friendlier, clearer experience both online and in the physical, print world.

Guidelines for color accessibility, used in design and UX disciplines, are intended to make visual experiences more inclusive for folks with different types of vision or sensitivities. The colors you’ll see in our design work, including but well beyond that signature orange, are now optimized according to these principles.

We think the new palette is an improved representation of the bold, distinctive, and inclusive spirit of our team and the Relativity community at large.

AI-Powered, Human-Empowered Legal Data Intelligence

But this brand refresh isn’t just for looks. We’ve updated how we talk about our company, our platform, and our community, too.

The bottom line? Modern legal teams do not need more disconnected tools, or AI for its own sake. They need an integrated platform that brings data and action together with fit-for-purpose AI that can pair speed and efficiency with clarity and control.

RelativityOne is an extensible, AI-powered platform supporting many LDI use cases. With it, legal teams benefit from:

  • Unified data with privacy protected, defensible audit trails, chain of custody preserved, and centralized projects from end to end.
  • Consistent workflows and the ability to apply learned insights to new projects, without reinventing wheels or repeating work.
  • Secure collaboration within their organizations, and with outside counsel and service providers.
  • The ability to scale massively, or scale back when needs are smaller—supporting projects and teams of any size.

As a system of record, RelativityOne offers a secure foundation, auditability, and knowledge accumulation for legal teams. And as a system of action, it helps them turn that knowledge into impact (with help from AI-powered workflows).

Having one platform that does both means every action customers take on their data increases its value:

  • Decisions, annotations, AI outputs, citations, and workflows become part of the record: easy to understand, easy to reference, easy to repeat.
  • Each step enriches the underlying data, strengthening future analysis, strategy, and institutional knowledge.
  • There’s a compounding effect: the more customers use the platform, the smarter and more valuable their data becomes.

This continuous feedback loop, where action enhances the record and the record informs action, is what enables RelativityOne to deliver enduring value.

And all of it is made possible by AI, done right. It’s embedded into workflows, not layered on top, and augments human judgment, never replacing it. Our AI is purpose-built for legal standards and complexities, and puts explainability, auditability, and defensibility ahead of hype. You see all of this reflected in Relativity aiR, and in the AI Principles that guide every tool we build.

Change and Endurance

Yes, the way we show up is changing. Plenty of things—our Legalweek booth, our website, RelFest—will look different this year. But our mission remains the same: Organize data. Discover the truth. Act on it.

We’re humbled by the breadth and brilliance of the community that relies on Relativity to do their best work, today and for the last two and a half decades. Our commitment to leadership and maintaining your trust in our e-discovery expertise remains unchanged. This refresh clarifies and expands our story, but it does not alter our foundation, and it’s rooted in our customers’ realities and our ongoing industry collaboration.

Our involvement in the Legal Data Intelligence project is one way we’ve put our long-term commitment to advancing this industry into action. It began in 2022, when a group of industry leaders came together to formally explore and define the value that legal teams can bring to their organizations. These professionals leverage the powerful combination of data, defensible processes, and technology, including AI, to do a lot more than the broader business world may recognize.

We got involved because we could see that the project’s purpose—to empower the legal industry with a vocabulary, framework, and best practices to manage legal data—ultimately accelerates the dispensation of legal advice and the pursuit of justice. What we’ve learned from this group is gold, and we hope our new positioning better reflects what Relativity users contribute to their teams every day.

Meeting the Demands of the Moment

We hope you’ll get to know our new brand with us. Explore the website and see what’s changed. Of course, we’re in NYC for Legalweek, so come catch up with us if you’re in the city—we’ve got our RelHQ in Convene Hudson Yards, and customers are welcome to stop by with or without a Legalweek pass. You can also find us on the conference floor at the Javits Center. Either way, come learn more, grab some merch, and let us know what you think.

And, whether you’re in New York or elsewhere, look for our refreshed brand in new places in the coming weeks.

As we’ve said before, this is all great—but it’s not enough. Legal work will continue to grow in complexity. This isn’t going to get easier with time. We’ll need to keep disrupting ourselves to meet every new challenge.

That’s not a bad thing, though. Data will remain an essential, and growing, source of value for modern enterprises of every ilk. We’re here to help you see and realize that value, so it doesn’t get lost in the forest of risks and challenges that such colossal volumes of information inevitably present.

AI will remain a powerful—and thoughtfully scrutinized—cornerstone of how we adapt our platform to meet these evolving demands. There’s just no other right way. Organizations need clarity, defensibility, and speed.

We’re here to provide all of that.

Thanks for letting us, 25 years running.

Rel Thank You
