The greatest challenges in e-discovery don’t just come from the changing volumes of data. They come from the changing shape of data, generated by a consumer and business landscape that is always evolving.
In 2023, to say that “short messages”—data originating from chats, texts, collaboration tools, and the like, often on custodians’ mobile phones—are exploding in volume would be an understatement. According to our customers, data from mobile devices is now present in over 75 percent of matters they manage … up from about 25 percent just two years ago.
And the shape of this data is different, too. Chat histories look much different than email threads and spreadsheets, and handling them efficiently and insightfully isn’t easy. Collecting this type of data (and others) from mobile phones also presents all sort of complications when compared to traditional collections from computers and even from cloud sources.
As people rely more and more on their mobile devices—and a jumble of platforms—to complete their conversations, it’s imperative that e-discovery and forensics teams keep up by being able to access this hodge-podge of communications … and make sense of it.
That’s no small task; it takes a village. As we work to add more connectors in RelativityOne, we also know we can’t go it alone; strategic collaborations can enable us to leverage best-in-class services to augment the discovery process in RelativityOne. So the idea of working with Cellebrite was a no-brainer, and not just according to us. Our customers have consistently requested deeper integration to make managing mobile data easier, faster, and more streamlined.
Cellebrite delivered with an integration this spring, and we’re excited to be working together on innovations like this. Not only is Cellebrite’s suite of solutions used alongside Relativity across the industry, but we have significant overlap across our teams and values. Cellebrite’s mission to “accelerate justice” dovetails well with our vision of empowering the pursuit of justice. And it helps when the leaders of this partnership share values and a cuppa.
Earlier this year at Relativity Fest London, Cellebrite CEO Yossi Carmil sat down with our own Phil Saunders to discuss the benefits of working together to deliver additional value across our customers and industries. That mutual respect and enthusiasm goes a long way toward delivering tech that keeps our customers one step ahead of the short message conversation. Read on to view some of the highlights.
Common Denominators
"What you see in Relativity is the mirror image of what we see in Cellebrite ... and your focus on the importance of data,” observes Phil Saunders, CEO at Relativity, during this video. Phil and Yossi Carmil, CEO at Cellebrite, opened their conversation with some insights into all our teams have in common—and how those similarities help us work to achieve greater results for our mutual customers.
The Wisdom of Mobile Data (or, Mission: Compatible)
" ... Taking the wisdom off the mobile phone ... Today that device can tell more about the person than the person can about himself or herself,” notes Yossi. When companies really understand their customers, they can deliver even greater value when working together. In this clip, Yossi and Phil discuss how our product integration will advance the collection and understanding of mobile data for e-discovery.
Driving Powerful Outcomes
"That streamlining of the process is power of this integration, which really excites me," says Phil. Ultimately the value of this collaboration is rooted in how, together, Cellebrite and RelativityOne can help legal teams work smarter, faster, and more insightfully in their pursuit of the truth.
The Relativity and Cellebrite teams came together to share insights at Relativity Fest 2023, sharing insights on mobile data collection in a session entitled "Unlocking Mobile Insights: Empowering Internal Investigations and e-Discovery in the Digital Age." If you missed it (or just want to catch up), you can view the recording in the Relativity Fest event platform until December 15, 2023.
