- Immediately downgraded classifications on approximately 50% of the document population, minimizing manual review
- Followed up with aiR for Review’s issues analysis to accelerate QC and confirm decisions
High Stakes, Tight Deadlines, and Overly Broad Confidentiality Designations
In a high-stakes legal matter, Cimplifi was tasked with managing a large-scale document review involving sensitive company information. When the client designated a large set of documents as Attorney’s Eyes Only, the court pushed back and called for a more targeted and precise approach to confidentiality review.
The team needed to quickly reassess the designations and deliver a defensible response, without reverting to a slow, manual re-review of the entire population.
A New Challenge for aiR: Confidential Business Information Analysis
To meet the deadline, Cimplifi turned to Relativity aiR for Review’s CBI analysis to perform a rapid first-pass review of the potentially confidential documents.
Using defined CBI types, the team focused aiR for Review’s analysis on three primary content categories: financial information, pricing material, and technical drawings – all of which needed to be evaluated carefully and accurately to ensure the client’s proprietary information was appropriately protected.
To refine results and get to this needed level of quality, Cimplifi was able to further guide aiR’s predictions by adding case-specific additional context to prompt inputs. This customized detail helped aiR for Review better understand the data and provide more comprehensive reasoning about why a specific designation was needed.
By automating the initial classification, aiR allowed the team to downgrade half the population from the initial Attorney’s Eyes Only status, dramatically reducing review effort and turnaround time.
Greater Visibility, Multiple aiR Analyses, More Focused QC
aiR for Review enabled the team to quickly identify and classify sensitive business information at scale, providing clear rationales and citations to support each decision. This immediate visibility allowed Cimplifi to move quickly while maintaining confidence in their first-pass CBI review approach. They then moved on to quality control, where they used other aiR for Review capabilities to expedite the process.
To streamline the additional review, the team ran an aiR for Review’s issues project to tag specific financial and pricing data that they wanted to further assess. This supplemental analysis allowed reviewers to focus their QC efforts where it mattered most, without needing to re-review the entire data set. Having access to multiple AI analyses provided a strategic advantage – allowing the team to move between different aiR for Review’s capabilities and decision types to get the job done more efficiently and effectively.
The Result: Faster Decisions and a Confident Court Response
aiR for Review delivered exactly what Cimplifi needed under pressure: a reliable, defensible first pass at confidentiality review. By significantly reducing the volume of documents requiring a deeper look, aiR for Review enabled Cimplifi to concentrate human expertise on the most sensitive and nuanced materials. This combination of AI-driven review and focused human validation helped the team maintain both speed and accuracy throughout the process.
"Relativity aiR for Review allowed us to immediately downgrade half of the population of overinclusive designations and focus reviewer time on more complicated calls. We were able to reproduce in very short order and the client was thrilled."
